About Communication

In Japanese class we are working on a video project, where we will have to use Japanese to express our thoughts and create and entertaining narrative. Some of the challenges we will have to face and learn from are how to communicate all the information we want to in a short video, and in an entertaining manner. As well as working in a group together, but also autonomously when needed. We will have to practice both writing, reading and speaking Japanese, maybe even thinking in Japanese. As well as researching externally or being very creative to transmit our knowledge with our limited vocabulary.

In general, I believe communication is about using different mediums to transmit your ideas effectively. Even when we are using one medium, for example speech, the tone of voice, body language, choice of words all alter how our message will be perceived and what effects it will create. Furthermore I believe that good communication enagages with the “receiver” in a way that makes him or her more than a detached observer, but one able to actively act upon the themes and concepts presented, even if only in their own minds. With the video project we have a great opportunity to use various sources of communication (visual, effects, voice etc.) to engage with the audience, and we will try to deliver our messages and ideas in a way that allows all viewers to engage with the topics.

We are in the same group so I have the same points as you from the first paragraph! We definitely need to watch out for how long script is and how long it will actually be on video - it will be tricky! However, I have faith in our group because we are Ricardo's Angels!!
I like how you mentioned that in individual mediums of communication, there are further more factors we can adjust depending on our message and the audience. You are absolutely right! Let's make sure to incorporate your understanding of communication into our project, especially when we start acting and revising the video.

I really liked the points you made in your post about communication. I agree that it will take some thinking in order to balance both communicating our ideas using our limited vocabulary as well as saying it in such a way that the audience will understand. I also liked your point about using different mediums to engage the viewer and effectively communicate the themes and concepts in your video.

I can't wait to watch your video! Good luck!

  5. Hi Tuma san,
Yes, communication uses various mediums and always needs receivers. I also agree with your idea that "good communication' stimulates receiver's perspectives. For your next step, think what it means to me "good communication'. How do you define that? How would you like to stimulate receiver's thought by "good communication"?
As you mentioned, there are many aspects that you are going to learn from this project, which, I strongly believe, will enhance your Japanese skills. I am looking forward to seeing your podcast.
